Grades 4-9. Offering students an adventure into discovery of times past, this all-in-one integrated kit covers key topics for the study of Rome. Components: a 28-minute introductory video: four editions of The Roman Tribune, an 11" x 17" "news" tabloid with lively subject matter and activities on history, culture, society, art, and architecture: 12 double-sided project cards for hands-on exercises: four transparencies that reinforce tabloid topics: a Teacher's guide with lesson ideas, extra things to do, and resources for each component. The video, Rome, the Ultimate Empire, introduces Ancient Roman geography, history, and culture. Each edition of The Roman Tribune focuses on one of four themes: the Roman empire (founding myths, Etruscan contributions, republican values, the Rome-Carthage rivalry, Caesar, Octavian, imperial Rome, and the Pax Romana), daily life (political and social roles, the Forum, Pompeii, food, fashion, and family), art and architecture (aqueducts, roads, cities, innovations in engineering and architecture, and the role of soldiers), and Romes legacy (Greek influence, legal and political ideas, mythology and literature, and the contributions of notable Romans). Four transparencies present historical geography, a Roman town house, the Colosseum, and notable Romans. Project card activities deal with government, empire, legions, frontiers, roads, waterworks, homes, architecture, the Forum, fashion, art, and literature.
